What Took It So Long?

Panasonic announced it will phase out of the LCD business in 2021.  Panasonic introduced IPS Alpha Technology in Himeji fab for TV application panel and established PLD in October 2008.  PLD switched its TV panel production to automotive and industrial focused panel production. Employees from PLD will be transferred to different divisions within Panasonic group.  However, Panasonic emphasized that even as PLD stopped LCD production, the company will still focus on its B2B businesses such as connectors, autonomous vehicles, sharing IT service and electric vehicles).  From: Panasonic Press Release
