TV Panel Prices Up, But Panel Makers Expect Continued Growth in Demand
In response to rising panel prices, some TV brands are raising prices, but panel makers are hopeful that price hikes for TVs will not diminish demand for TV panels. They point to panel shortages, noting that some panel supplies for TV or IT applications are falling short of demand by about 30%. Notebook makers are prioritized their orders by focusing on government procurement projects, according to AU Optronics (AUO) CEO Frank Ko, who said that the supply is really tight and that the price hikes by TV vendors simply reflect the rising costs of panels. He believes the shortages could stretch into the first half of 2021. The shortages of some key components such as IC parts could further compound the situation, pushing panel prices up further in the coming months, according to Innolux president James Yang. The statements by Innolux and AUO executives seem to reflect their exuberance after months of falling revenue and losses
