Top 10 Smartphone OEMs Continue Unbroken Record of Y/Y Growth

Smartphone shipments reportedly fell 21% and 5% Y/Y in 2018 and 2019, respectively but are expected in recover in 2020 as 5G phones grow from 50m to 200m-300m. But the 2018 and 2019 lower volumes, were not reflected by the top 10 OEMs, which have increased their shipments and share each year since 2011 culminating in 1.3b smartphones in 2019 up 7% Y/Y. The 2018 and 2019 reductions are in effect, the maturing of the industry and the concentration of volume in the top 10, while the smaller, local suppliers have lost share as shown in the following chart.
