Tianma Issue Purchase Order to SFA Engineering for Gen 6 Fab
June 17, 2019

SFA Engineering signed a short-term contract with Tianma for $57.3m in display equipment to be delivered by July 15 of this year.  As Tianma is expected to build out its phase 2 plan for its Gen 6 OLED fab in Wuhan, China (to open in 1Q 2020), the order could be for that expansion project.  SFA makes a wide variety of OLED display equipment, including transport mechanisms for substrates, laser cutting tools, and sputtering and other deposition tools. Tianma has been producing rigid OLED displays since 2013 (pilot line) and has a Gen 5.5 OLED line in Shanghai, and the aforementioned Gen 6 line in Wuhan, which began phase 1 operation in late 2017.  The company has recently shown both flexible and foldable OLED displays, but by 2020 Tianma’s small panel flexible OLED program will complete ramping their flexible capacity.  Tianma already has a significant share of the small panel LCD panel market, particularly in China, and those relationships will give the company a good starting point for its OLED products once they have been qualified.
