TCL to Show QD/OLED TV at IFA 2021
Samsung Display’s QD/OLED panels are expected to be released in Q321 with prototypes already being shipped to Sony and Panasonic. Several reports indicate that TCL will also begin selling a QD/OLED set in 2021 using ink-jet printing technology acquired from JOLED with a $200m investment made in June. Ken Werner reported that Marek Maciejewski, TCL Product Development Director for Europe said that TCL might show a quantum-dot (QD/OLED) TV made with inkjet printing (IJP) at IFA 2021. The JOLED technology is designed to print individual OLED sub-pixels and the use of the equipment to put down layers of blue material is inconsistent with the relatively poor performance of soluble blue. More likely, Maciejewski could simply be pre-announcing a TCL deal with SDC to use their QD/OLED panels in a TV.
