Sharp and Sony Release 5G Phones for the Stagnant Japanese Phone Market

Sharp released the AQUOS zero 2.  The smartphone features a new 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED display; 0.35-inch thin and 4.7oz (141g) weight. The 120Hz refresh rate is a targeted for gaming applications.  The user can select the high response mode, where the standard 90Hz refresh rate is increased to 240Hz. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon855 chipset. It has a memory of 8GB RAM/256GB.  AQUOS zero 2 was released in March 13 in Japan and is carried by NTT Docomo, KDDI and Softbank. MSPR is $1060 (JPY151,170).

Sony’s announced a flagship 5G OLED smartphone Xperia 1 II (Mark 2) for sale at the end of April in Japan. The Xperia 1 II features a 6.5-inch 4K resolution (1644 x 3840), >600 pixel per inch. Its 21:9 aspect ratio offers a multi-screen option, which displays dual windows for two different applications. Sony also designed the Xperia 1 II as a 5G ready smartphone and integrated camera lens produced by ZEISS.  MSRP is ~$1300.
