Samsung to Launch Four Foldable Phones Next Year
ET News reports that Samsung plans to launch four foldable phones in 2021. The website reports that these devices are two Galaxy Z Fold 3 variants and two Galaxy Z Flip 2 models. The outlet also claims that all four phones will feature 5G connectivity. ET News didn’t report on any major differences between the Fold devices, but it claimed that the two Z Flip phones will have “different performance and features.” All four foldable phones are scheduled to launch in the second half of 2021. Nevertheless, this latest report of four foldables contrasts with previous rumors, which pointed to three devices. More specifically, it was originally believed that Samsung was going to launch Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Fold Lite, and Galaxy Z Flip 2 models. ET News also notes that Samsung is working on a rollable phone but claims that it isn’t part of Samsung’s business plan for 2021. Samsung’s rollable design allows the screen to be stretched upwards, which would be a big departure from devices like the Oppo X 2021 rollable concept.
Given that the Galaxy S21+ 5G will have a 6.7” display and support the S-Pen, speculation arose that Samsung would reconfigure its premium smartphone lineup with Galaxy Z foldables and Galaxy S devices after ditching the Galaxy Note family. But a Samsung official said, "We are preparing to release the Galaxy Note series next year," Samsung's mobile business chief Roh Tae-moon hinted in an editorial that the world's largest smartphone maker intends to support S-Pen stylus in more Galaxy devices in addition to the Galaxy Note phablets.
