Samsung Temporarily Delays A5 Campus Expansion
May 24, 2020
Samsung Display temporarily halted construction on its planned expansion of its A5 campus in Asan with a statement, “The COVID-19 pandemic has made it necessary for changes in the construction schedule as the business environment is changing rapidly.” The project, which extends through 2025 and is expected to cost ~$10.5b, does not specify what the increased space will be used for, although expectations are for both conventional flexible OLED capacity and SDC’s QD/OLED large panel production, and the company specified that their long-term plans for the project have not changed. The conversion of SDC’s L8-1 LCD fab to QD/OLED in the Asan campus was not affected by the construction halt, as the expansion project has been focused on external site work. From: SCMR, LLC
