Samsung and BOE Share Display Supply for the new iQOO 8
The selling point iQOO’s new mobile phone, the iQOO 8 smartphone is its high-quality display, which is coming from both Samsung and BOE. While the standard version will use a BOE display, the Pro version will use a Samsung display. The iQOO 8 uses the world’s first high-brightness luminescent material E5 screen. This screen has 1 billion native colors, 2K ultra-clear resolution with 517 PPI. The screen of iQOO 8 is a micro-curved center punch-hole screen. This smartphone will be one of the earliest to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus SoC. According to iQOO, users do not have to worry about the 2K + 120Hz combination in terms of power consumption. It appears that the company will use a large capacity battery in addition to the 120W fast charge. According to reports, the iQOO 8 series will officially arrive on August 17th. The VRR automatically fluctuates between 1Hz and 120Hz depending on the usage. For instance, when reading text messages, the refresh rate can be as low as 1Hz. However, during gaming, the refresh rate may need to be at its highest, 120Hz, indicating it could be an LTPO display, likely only for the Pro model. The device will also use a 5x zoom periscope camera that supports up to 60x zoom shooting. It offers 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a 4500 mAh battery, and a 120W / 100W fast charging. The standard version of iQOO 8 is a replacement model of iQOO 7.
Chinese OEMs try to use displays from Chinese panel makers, rather than from Samsung, because they generally cost less. But Samsung excels in availability, front-of-screen (FoS) performance and technology. The decision by iQOO to use BOE in the standard model and Samsung in the Pro Model (LTPO) hints that BOE is catching up in FoS. The Pro model will be the debut of SDC new E5 OLED panel with QHD+ resolution, a pixel density of 517ppi, and a 120Hz refresh rate and with LTPO, it can support VRR (from 1Hz to 120Hz). It is a 10-bit panel and with 1 billion colors. It has curved sides and a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera. The iQOO 8 Pro will be unveiled on August 17. iQOO is vivo’s value-oriented sub-brand, and features the Snapdragon 888+ processor that was announced a few weeks ago. It also features 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, and 120W fast charging. It is said to run OriginOS 1.0 that is based on Android 11. It is noteworthy that a new SDC OLED panel is debuting on a non-Galaxy smartphone.
