Sakai’s New Gen 10.5 Start Of Production Delayed
6 Months

October 11, 2019

With the large area LCD industry plagued by chronic overcapacity, Sakai Display Products (SDP) announced that their 10.5G LCD line in Guangzhou will delay its planned volume production by six months to April 2020 vs. its original schedule set for September. The 10.5G line has a production capacity of 90,000 glass substrates/month and will focus on producing 65- and 75-inch and other ultra large-size TV panels. The delay is effectively reducing the large area capacity growth by 3.5m panels over a 6-month period. SDP rolled out its first batch of 65-inch TV panels in July. The delay resulted in payment disputes between Sakai SIO and its equipment suppliers. SDP said it has paid out 60% of payments for deals signed with equipment suppliers, which would leave some $2.4b in arrears.
