OnePlus Co-Founder to Start New Smartphone Company

Carl Pei has announced that his new company plans will be formally revealed on 27 January. His new venture received a seed funding from Kunal Shah, founder of India's CRED. A total of $7 million was raised in a seed financing round for his new venture from friends and private investors including Tony Fadell (Principal at Future Shape & Inventor of the iPod), Casey Neistat (YouTuber), Kevin Lin (Co-founder of Twitch), Steve Huffman (CEO of Reddit), Liam Casey (Founder and CEO, PCH), Paddy Cosgrave (Founder of Web Summit) and Josh Buckley (CEO of Product Hunt).

Pei sent ripples around the tech space when he left OnePlus in October 2020, a company he helped found with Pete Lau back in 2013. OnePlus is a roaring success, managing to achieve what many bigger companies have failed to do with more resources at their fingertips. So, the fact that Pei is about to have a go at something new, has piqued a lot of people's interests. The company will HQ in London, and that's virtually everything we know so far. Roll on the 27th so we can find out more.
