OLEDWorks Introduces Brite 3 Panels and a Path to Flexible Lighting
April 02, 2018

OLEDWorks announced its high performing Lumiblade Brite 3 OLED panels. According to the announcement Brite 3 OLED lighting panels are now available in two color temperatures and CRI greater than 90, the new Lumiblade Brite 3 OLED panels provide enhanced performance with up to 85 lm/W and L70 of 100,000 hours at nominal brightness of 100 lumens.  Additionally, the Brite 3 products boast the industry leading brightness range with a maximum brightness at 8500 cd/m2, delivering 300 lumens at 75 lm/W. The Brite 3 will be offered in three product shapes with the introduction of round to balance the existing square and rectangle designs. The Lumiblade products will continue to be manufactured in Aachen, Germany. Engineering samples will be available in the second quarter.
OLEDWorks and BASF's Coatings division have joined forces to develop bendable OLED panels. The new product range named "Brite 3" enables an improved efficacy while retaining both color rendering and high brightness option.  The high-performance encapsulation protects the panels from degradation through water or oxygen, both present in ambient air, and provides an excellent optical transparency of more than 90 %. In close interaction with OLEDWorks, BASF has developed barrier materials, which are crucial to realize flexible thin-film encapsulation for OLED lighting and display application. In the new Brite 3 panels, OLEDWorks uses BASF materials as planarization layer to enable highly reliable thin-film encapsulation.
