OLED TV Shipments Were 1.2m in Q121
LGE’s OLED TV shipment reached a record high of 792 million units in Q121 on growing popularity of premium home screens. Its OLED TV shipment is up 116 percent compared a year earlier, according to Omdia. The company claimed 19.2 percent of the global TV market, based on amount, in the first 1.2mquarter. The share is also its best. When including LCDs, LG Electronics shipped a total of 7.28 million TVs across the world, up more than 15 percent Y/Y.
Global OLED TV shipment also nearly doubled, totaling at 1.19 million units. The figure exceeded the market’s projection by 12%. Demand for OLED TVs is growing fast despite the price tag. OLED TVs are sold at $1,996.3 on average, which is more than four times expensive than LCD TVs selling with average price tag of $498.7. Omdia projected the global OLED TV market to reach 5.8 million units this year, versus last year’s 3.65 million units, but LGD expects to ship 7.5m OLED panels. OLED TV is expected to account for more than 10% of the annual worldwide TV revenue, which would be the first time reaching that milestone. The global TV shipment in Q121 rose 10% Y/Y to 51.2 million units as pent-up demand continued. The result also beat the earlier projection of 50.04 million units.
