OLED Panel Makers Need to Step Up to Meet Automotive Specs
April 15, 2019

Automobile are one of the few display markets, where there is significant growth opportunities. With ~100m new cars built annually and the expected # of displays/car growing to 3-4, OLED panel makers have had no success, except some early prototypes from BMW and Audi.  Yet, AUO, Innolux, JOLED, BOE, Tianma, Samsung and LGD have dedicated resources to build panels that can meet automotive specifications. The temperature specs of 1,000 hours at 85°C and relatively high luminance are difficult challenges for OLEDs. The opportunity is significant and the flexible format, is a unique solution that fits well with the auto design scape. The technology has been recognized as a cut above and now the OLED panel makers are charged with delivering.
