MagnaChip to Focus on Power ICs and OLED Driver ICs
April 05, 2020
MagnaChip Semiconductor announced it will sell Cheongju semiconductor fab to Alchemist Capital Partners Korea and Credit Partners, a private equity fund. The foundry was sold for $345M. MagnaChip’s foundry business was 40% of its business. MagnaChip is left with its OLED display driver ICs business in which it design OLED driver ICs for Samsung and LGD. Its core products are 28nm based driver IC, FET, SJ-MOSFET and IGBT. After sale of Cheongju fab, MagnaChip will use the funds to expand its Kumi fab, an 8-inch wafer line, which is used for premium power discrete solutions such as ICs for autonomous and electric cars while the OLED driver ICs business will operate in a fabless mode.
