Lifetime and Luminance Improvements Required for OLEDs to Get Wide Acceptance in Vehicle Displays

DFF does extensive testing of displays for the auto industry against a number of spec, one of which is shown in the next figure in which OLEDs don’t meet the luminance of lifetime requirements
The next figure shows a lifetime test, where OLEDs drop to 90% of initial luminance after 1716 hours starting at 415 nits @+650 C, which is well below the material specs, indicating the impact of higher temperatures. At +850 C, there the luminance drops to 80% in 1,000 hrs.
OLED viewing angles have always been better than LCDs and the next figure shows the quantification of the differences, which are critical for dashboard viewing.
