LGE and Samsung Compete for Gaming Monitors w/OLEDS and Mini LEDs
According to LG Electronics Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. their large-size OLED TVs and Mini LCD LCDs could draw in gamers since they also function as big-screen gaming mediums. LG’s current most compact OLED TV includes a 48-inch display. However, the company plans to release a smaller organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV model during this year’s second half. Moreover, the soon-to-be-released unit measures 42 inches. LG’s display manufacturing arm, LG Display, would also play a significant part, scheduled to mass-produce 42-inch panels sometime this year. In January, LG designed its 2021 smart TVs to support Stadia, Google’s game streaming platform, reinforcing its gaming industry commitment. LG 2021 OLED TV lineup also includes a Game Optimizer function, providing a quick menu bar for various gaming settings. The Game Optimizer gives users outstanding display quality by automatically fine-tuning pictures and sounds using an advanced AI processor. Samsung hope to compete with the 2021 Neo QLED and QLED lineup’s gaming capacity. Samsung equipped the next-gen TV lines with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Besides providing smooth animation and removing screen tearing, this technology offers low latency and HDR visuals.
Furthermore, Samsung revealed that its 2021 Neo QLEDs became the first TVs to receive the Gaming TV Performance certification from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker, an acclaimed German electrical engineering certification firm. Additionally, Samsung acquired the accreditation due to the releases’ over 1,000-nit HDR brightness and low input lag. Samsung also noted that last year, its customers’ QLED TV gaming function usage increased significantly. This data indicates that more people utilize their TVs for gameplay operations. Samsung Display, also actively targets the fast-growing gaming industry. In March, Samsung Display supplied specialized OLED panels to ASUS’s newest gaming smartphone, demonstrating high-resolution displays and enabling premium performance. Samsung Display announced that the world's leading certification company SGS* certified its laptop OLED for gaming performance, which is featured in Samsung Electronics' latest laptop Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360. According to SGS's test results, the Samsung OLED Display showed the blur length below 1.4mm and the moving picture response time** below 15.4ms, both of which are crucial to enjoying dynamic and fast-paced action games. An LCD laptop with identical specs showed the maximum 2.1mm blur length and the 26.4ms moving picture response time. Its HDR contrast ratio, which quantifies the sharpness and the depth of an image, resulted in over 1,000,000:1.
According to Samsung Display, fast-paced video games that require higher performance often suffer degradations in image quality when played on a display with a long blur length, which could harm user experience. The OLED Display for laptops is also certified for cinematic experience with its wide color gamut (120% of DCI-P3) and its low-luminance expression capability below 0.0005 nits.
