LGD Having Trouble Supplying OLED Panels for LGE’s Mobile Phones
July 15, 2019

The Chinese press (gizmochina) reported that LGE is moving orders for flexible OLEDs from LGD to BOE for its phones following Huawei, which is using BOE for OLED panels on the P30. The move is apparently part of the cost reduction strategy introduced by the new mobile department head which may see the production of LGE’s handsets moved to Vietnam, where Samsung is as well. The orders to LG Display for OLED panels have been getting progressively smaller, as the company seeks to keep the inventory low. BOE and other Chinese OLED makers can produce OLED panels in larger quantities and at a cheaper cost, which may account for LGE’s decision to shift orders to BOE.
