LG evo Gaining on Mini LED Luminance, but Still Far Behind
RTINGS' in-depth testing showed that the QN90A crushed the LG G1 across all brightness tests. The LG G1 produced 294 nits in SDR peak brightness, whereas the QN90A delivered a whopping 1,428 nits. In the HDR peak brightness category, the LG G1's showed 728 nits against the QN90A's 1,800 nits of brightness. While OLED evo has increased luminance vs. current-gen OLEDs it is still behind Neo QLED displays. LG sells just one model under the OLED evo moniker, the LG G1 with Gallery Design. Even its more expensive OLED offerings use the same OLED panel as the LG C1. The LG G1 is available in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch screen sizes, with prices starting at $1,999 in the United States. The flagship Sony A90J OLED TV uses the same panel as the LG G1 since they hit similar brightness levels. LGE is expected to use evo panels across its entire OLED line-up from 2022. The LG C1 costs $1,599 for the 55-inch variant. In comparison, the 55-inch LG G1 is $1,999. LG has always priced its G series models a step up from its C series since it's thinner and follows the Gallery Design for a flush wall-mounted experience. LG's new OLED evo displays have a twenty percent improvement in peak HDR brightness levels, which makes a difference in a bright room, but it is no match for Samsung's QLED panels that can achieve more than twice the brightness levels.
