Large Area Panel Shipments Drive AUO to Positive Y/Y Growth in Sales
AUO reported 12/20, Q420 and full-year sales and shipments. For the full year of 2020, large-sized panel shipments were around 120.2 million units, an increase of 11.1% from the previous year. Small- to medium-sized panel shipments totaled around 117.48 million units, down by 10.3% year-over-year. For the year AUO, AUO was up 0.8% in sales, 10.3% in Large area Shipments and down 3.7% in small/medium shipment. In Q420, large-sized panel shipments totaled around 33.25 million units, down by 1.7% quarter-over-quarter and up by 25.3% Y/Y. Shipments of small/medium panels in the same quarter exceeded 28.81 million units, down by 4.1% sequentially and 23.1% Y/Y.

AUO did undergo a steep drop in small/medium shipments in December and Q421 but large area shipments were up 25.3% in Q420.Given that demand for smartphone panels has been relatively steady during that period, the drop off may be a customer issue, probably Huawei.
