Kateeva Remains a Force in TFE
August 02, 2020
Previously, we reported that Kateeva had lost the Samsung IJP business for the QD/OLED process to Samsung sub SEMES, causing a major reduction in force. Last week, we reported an ELEC article which they indicated that Kateeva’s TFE business was being challenged by Toray, SEMES and LG PRI, although LGD replaced the PRI tools with Kateeva equipment. However, Kateeva recently won ½ G6 tool orders at Tianma TM17 and has won just about every competition for small/medium TFE. The company has orders to fill at Visionox V3 and BOE B12. DSCC reports that Kateeva is moving into stretchable OLEDs which require tiny islands of ink to be deposited with extreme accuracy. If Kateeva returns to the pixel printing it will face competition from Panasonic/Screen, TEL and. SEMES.
Kateeva also reported that Tianma ordered a YIELD jet EXPLORE inkjet printing system to expand its R&D facility working on next-generation OLED displays. The new 200mm system will be used to develop devices and materials for various new mobile device applications. The installation will bring the number of Kateeva printers at customer sites to 60, making it the world’s largest installed base of inkjet tools mass producing OLED applications.
