JDI Introduces a Non-Contact Touch Panel
JDI has developed a transparent LCD that can be operated by hold the finger over the display without needing to touch it. A transparent like glass plate displays images when the power is turned on. A user can select the icon displayed on the screen or move finger left or right direction to scroll and operate just like the touch panel of a smartphone. JDI explains that the mechanism that senses changes in the amount of capacitance between humans and panels and reacts when a finger is operated within 2-inches of the display.
JDI showed a prototype 12.3-inch touch panel at Fintech Japan 2019JDI hopes that a transparent display will be incorporated as part of the droplet prevention partition. For instance, the display could be integrated into the public spaces such as retail stores or kiosks. It is possible to display payment method options on a partition installed at a convenience store cash register, or to display a QR code for smartphone payment. JDI expects demand for this type of touch panels in places that require strict hygiene management, such as medical facilities and food factories. JDI announced is currently providing samples and will begin shipping in February 2021. Sharp developed a touchless 31.5-inch LCD panel and Panasonic is planning to release a series of transparent OLEDs.
