JDI CEO Brags About Advances In OLED Technology but Provides No Proof
July 19, 2020
Japan Display’s new CEO, Minoru Kikuoka stated that they were in talks with customers on possible investments in next generation OLED displays. He claimed they could produce OLED displays that are sharper, less power consuming, and easier to produce than current OLED displays, and would not use traditional evaporative deposition methods. While he estimated that JDI ‘could’ commence full-scale manufacturing as early as 2022, he also stated that much will depend on the company’s ability to bring yields up to a reasonable point. As a new CEO (10/19) he is likely a bit more optimistic than previous management. Apple has a stake in JDI, however supporting the restructure by trading $200m in what was essentially debt into fab equipment.
