Interior Designers Get Another Degree of Freedom w/Samsung’s the Wall
Samsung's The Wall is being used by designers to elevate the design of offices, showrooms and other commercial projects Screens have always been a big part of our lives, and even more so of late, as digital systems are paving the way to smarter solutions for the ways that we work, live and play. Interior designers were asked to picture ways that office design may change with the help of smart screens, as firms adapt to the new reality of staying connected globally to colleagues and business partners abroad.

With a stronger emphasis on connecting digitally, a large smart screen could potentially improve the way firms communicate with team members and clients who are stationed overseas. “The Wall from Samsung could give the clients the possibility of a great teleconferencing experience if used as part of a large meeting room, since we have been using this as our principal mode of communication lately with our overseas partners and clients,” says Isabelle Miaja, founder of Miaja Design Group. Bu Shu Kun and Terrence Quah, co-founders of Architology Interiors said, “Video conferencing with the right calibration of camera lens angles and scaling could provide a more immersive interface if all other participants were displayed close to a life-like scale”.

The creative possibilities for The Wall as a digital signage or installation display are potentially limitless. Its sheer size as well as the modular design allows it to be installed both vertically and horizontally to suit the occasion and setting. “With The Wall’s modular design, the possibility of customization to create digital wall art is exciting,” says Terri Tan, design director of Designworx Interior Consultant. She advises creating an understated backdrop for this large screen to be wall-hung on. “In a commercial setting where the screen is switched on most of the time, such as in an office or showroom, the surrounding area should be treated minimally so that the display takes centerstage,” says Terri Tan, design director of Designworx Interior Consultant. The Wall can certainly add to the overall design and impress a client both commercially and in a residential setting,” adds Miaja. “I can also see it working well in a gallery, showing the different pieces of an artist that are not on display, ensuring the collector gets the opportunity to see it in the best possible way.”

Its sleek profile allows this display to be seamlessly integrated into almost any environment. The ultra-low reflection screen can also offer purest black in various lighting conditions, with or without the use of window blinds or curtains at the windows; a helpful tool particularly in brightly-lit offices or showrooms with abundant daylight. “The best way for The Wall to make an impact is if it was installed in such a way that it could be almost ‘invisible’ and perceived as a normal wall or artwork, but it comes to life at the touch of a button,” adds Quah. “Due to the brightness of the micro-LED technology, window coverings to reduce the amount of natural light coming into the space may not have to be used in order to get sufficient viewing contrast, unlike a projector screen wall. “The Wall is available with sizes and resolution options up to 583 inches; these include a 146-inch unit in 4K resolution, 219-inch in 6K resolution or 292-inch in 8K resolution
