IDC Lowers PC, Laptop and Notebook Forecast by 8% for 2020

IDC updated its 2020 forecast for PCs, Notebooks and Tablets. Y/Y shipments for all categories was lowered to 360.9m down 7.7% Y/Y. The only gainer was the 2-in-1 devices (e.g. Microsoft Surface), which was up 196.8%, but that appears to be due to a under forecast in 2019. Comparing the 4-year growth, 2020—2024 has a CAGR of -1%, while the 2019-2023 CAGR was -2%. It can be concluded that due to COVID-19, IDC is less optimistic about PCs of all kinds, which represents a change from 2019, when there was Y/Y growth for the 1st time in several years.
