Huawei P50 To Use Kirin 9000 & Third-Party Chips – OLED Screen in Preparation
The Business Standard, said US sanctions, will reduce Huawei’s share of smartphone shipments in 2020 to 14% vs. 17% in 2019, and next year analysts have lowered the share estimate to 4% as Huawei does not have enough Kirin 9000 SoCs because TSMC only delivered 8.8 million units. The P50 is a flagship series and the ban restricts TSMC, their prime foundry from fulfilling any new orders. AMD, Intel, TSMC, and Sony received licenses to supply Huawei, but these licenses exclude 5G support. TheElec reports that Huawei will release the P50 series in the first half of 2021. Samsung and LG Display are preparing for the supply of their OLED screens. The Huawei P50 series will also use the Kirin 9000 SoCs.
The Mate 40 series is in short supply in the Chinese market, and some models are out of stock. There are reports that the demand for Mate 40 series may exceed 10 million units this year and is causing Huawei difficulty in balancing the allocation its inventory of Kirin chips between the two flagship series. Huawei’s P and Mate series mobile phones shipped 44 million units in 2019. The company said that due to the sanctions by the United States, its sales in 2019 decreased by 60 million units and will likely fall further this year
