Helitai Technology Acquires Funding for New Fab in Jiangxi Province
December 15, 2019
Jinggangshan Economic & Technological Development Zone, a state-owned 18 mi2 industrial park in Jiangxi Province, signed a Framework agreement with Helitai Technology, (Holitech), a company that produces a wide variety of display related products, ranging from small display modules (1.8” to 10.1”), fingerprint ID and touch panels, and PCBs, but is primarily an OEM/ODM. The framework is rather non-specific, but call for a ‘quasi’ Gen 6 (1300x1500mm) TFT LCD fab under the name of “Helitai Display Panel Project”, which makes it sound like a display fab, yet the project funding, at least in the framework agreement, was only 6.5b Yuan, which translates to just under $925m US. It could be a small panel, low capacity LCD fab, or an assembly line with a display module focus. What makes this more difficult to understand is that the framework specifies the production of 600,000 panels annually, which would imply a capacity of only a few thousand sheets/month if it were an actual display panel production line. While the cost of the project, as designated, would not be enough to build a large Gen 6 fab, the framework did state that the government had applied for loans, which, when obtained, might increase the size of the overall investment and legitimize a real display fab.
