​Gartner Forecasts Stagnation in W/W Device Shipments thru 2020

Gartner looks at the device market in terms of PCs, Ultra mobiles and Mobile Phones and recently forecasted volume thru 2020. For years, the growth in smartphone shipments has kept the total device growth on an even keel, but now that smartphones have plateaued, the entire device category is expected to show virtually no growth thru 2020. Gartner puts total devices shipments in 2018 at 2.3b up 0.9% and growth in 2019 and 2020 at 0/9% and 0.5%, respectively. Note that Gartner is one of the few researchers forecasting growth in smartphones and their volume is ~1.8b compared to most other mobile phone researchers and analysts that put the volume at 1.45b.
