FlexEnable & Merck Cooperate on OTFTs and LCD Polymer Walls
May 20, 2017

FlexEnable has partnered with Merck, to produce novel display shapes, following FlexEnable’s demonstration of conformable, large area, full color and video rate Organic TFT based LCDs (OLCD). With a bend radius around 30 mm, OLCDs meet the needs of some automotive applications but not the conformed displays used in smartphones. By combining FlexEnable’s organic TFT with Merck’s innovative polymer wall LC technology OLCDs can be curved around complex surfaces and shapes. The polymer walls enhance cell-gap control while providing excellent display performance and OLCDs can be manufactured on conventional production lines. FlexEnable has been working on applying OTFTs to OLEDs but the devices have not yet reached the mobility and reliability to meet the demands of commercial OLED displays.
