Epistar Announces Availability Of  RGB Mini LED Displays With
Pitches Below 0.8mm

July 19, 2020

Epistar began shipping RGB mini LED displays with pitches below 0.8mm for procurement projects in June and will start shipping to Europe-based operators of recreational centers and Chinese clients in third-quarter 2020.
So far, more clients have adopted POB (package on board) design than those for COB (chip on board) packaging, Epistar noted. Based on orders received, Epistar expects its RGB mini LED packaging capacity to be nearly fully utilized in the third quarter. Demand for LED backlighting for smartphones, notebooks and LCD TVs is rising, with shipments scheduled until August, Epistar indicated.

Epistar has reported June consolidated revenues of NT$1.022 billion (US$34.4 million), increasing 1.34% sequentially but decreasing 16.37% on year. Consolidated sales of NT$3.142 billion for second-quarter 2020 slipped 7.27% sequentially and 22% on year, and those of NT$6.529 billion for January-June dipped 16.09% annually. LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics said it saw booming shipments for infrared and ultraviolet LED devices, expecting full utilization of their production capacity to continue in third-quarter 2020. It expects shipments for mini LED backlight units (BLU) for LCD TVs to gradually increase in second-half 2020.

Everlight's June consolidated revenues of NT$1.786 billion dropped 7.25% sequentially but grew 8.85% on year. Consolidated sales of NT$5.647 billion for second-quarter 2020 rose 24.99% sequentially and 8.12% on year, and those of NT$10.164 billion for January-June fell 1.73% annually.

Vertically-integrated LED firm Lextar Electronics has reported consolidated revenues of NT$668.7 million for June, shrinking 5.51% sequentially and 20.89% on year. Consolidates sales of NT$2.131 billion for second-quarter 2020 grew 26.94% sequentially but declined 11.05% on year, and those of NT$3.81 billion for January-June dropped 16.51% annually.
