December Panel Prices Up M/M in All Categories
December notebook prices have been increasing and should finish the month up between 1.3% and 1.8%, while we monitor panel prices should be up between 0.7% and 1.3% and TV panel pricing up between 2.5% and 4.5%. There continue to be shortages of a number of display related components, particularly drivers, and even the hint that a panel producer might not be able to meet a customer unit volume contracts, which could lead to double ordering. However, fab utilization is already >90% and there is little hope that new capacity can be added quickly, indicating supply shortages could continue into 1Q. TV demand in the US has been strong through much of the pandemic and TV brands continue to push toward meeting volume goals set earlier this year however they have far less room to discount and US consumers might have borrowed a bit of holiday CE spending earlier this year when they were first introduced to the world of stay-at-home entertainment.
