Corning is rolling out an expansion of its Gorilla Glass to optimize performance of mobile device cameras.
- The introduction of Gorilla Glass with DX and Gorilla Glass with DX+ adds superior scratch resistance and durability to the glass' advanced optical performance, Corning says.
- “Antireflective coatings have long been used on conventional cameras to improve light capture,” said Gorilla Glass General Manager Jaymin Amin. “However, these coatings have a propensity to scratch easily, negatively impacting image quality."
- Samsung will become the first customer to adopt the DX products for its camera lens covers.
- Since 2010, Corning says, the number of photos taken globally has grown from 350 billion to a projected 1.4 trillion per year, and consumers say mobile camera technology is one of the most important factors in purchasing decisions.
