Chip Wars: China Foundries Cut Capacity Support For Taiwan Chipmakers
DIGITIMES president Colley Hwang wrote a series of articles on TSMC's competitiveness and the situations of the foundry sector. Chinese firms are keen on improving China's semiconductor self-sufficiency, with OSATS stepping up development of advanced packaging technology. China foundries cut capacity support for Taiwan chipmakers: China-based foundries including Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC), and Huahong Group have cut back their capacity support for orders placed by Taiwan's fabless chipmakers as they give priority to fulfilling orders from their local customers in China, according to industry sources.
TSMC dossier (1): 3 pillars to foundry service provider's competitiveness - process technology, customer relationship and industry ecosystem: TSMC dominates around 55% of the foundry market and generates more than 80% of the foundry industry's revenue. A TSMC production halt will seriously disrupt the global handset, server and even automotive sectors.
China OSATs step up deployments in advanced packaging field: China-based OSATs including Jiangsu Changjiang Electronics Technology (JCET), Huatian Technology and Tongfu Microelectronics have stepped up their deployments in the advanced packaging field eyeing a global presence in the AI and HPC chip sectors, according to industry sources.
