China’s Q420 Smartphone Shipments Down 18% Y/Y
Q420 mobile phone shipments in China were 82.5m -18% Y/Y and up 30% sequentially. During December 45 new smartphone models were released, 38 of which were from local brands. Local brands still contributed 77.4% of total shipments in December, which is similar to October and November, but Q420 local brand percentage was lower than all three previous quarters, because of the recent availability of the iPhone 12 reducing local brand penetration. In 2020, 169.2m 5G smartphones were sold in China in vs. <20m shipped in 2019. 5G smartphones had a 60% share of total smartphone shipments. Overall smartphone shipments, which represent 96% of all mobile phones shipped, were 307.98m units, ↓20.8% Y/Y.
