China’s January Smartphone Shipments

Total smartphone shipments on the Mainland were 20.8m units, down 31.6% sequentially and down 38.8% Y/Y, the worst January since CAIST recordkeeping began, and February could be worse.  While on-line traffic in China has increased during the outbreak, brick and mortar retail has declined between 25% and 50% depending on the region, and while some retail businesses have reopened, at least under limited hours, the retail infrastructure in China is certainly suffering.
