BOE and CSOT to Double Gen 10.5 Capacity – Possible Move to OLEDs
June 5, 2017

Digitimes is out with a new report concerning the building of additional Gen 10+ fabs by Chinese panel producers BOE and China Star. BOE is already building out a two phase Gen 10.5 LCD fab in Hefei, China, is expected to build another in Wuhan, a bit over 240 miles away, and while specifics concerning production have not been revealed, there has been speculation that BOE would allocate some portion of its ultra-large production to OLED.  China Star is also building a two-phase Gen 11 fab
(we think it will be Gen 10.5) in Shenzhen, which is said to be oriented toward both LCD and printable OLED displays.  The CSOT fab is expected to enter production in 2Q 2019, and according to Digitimes, a 2nd Gen 11 fab is expected to be built alongside the one currently under construction.  Both companies are exploring the use of ink-jet printing to reduce the cost of producing large size OLED displays.
