Average Panel Size Grows to 6.4” for Smartphones

Smartphone displays have been getting larger, yet the popularity of smaller or ‘mini’ models has become a focal point for smartphone brands over the last year. But, the iPhone 12 Mini uses the same components as its larger brethren, the  power requirements are similar but the space for the battery is less. In Q220, the average panel size was 6.4” and the band between 6.3” and 6.5” accounted for 45.7% of smartphone displays.

Size however is not the only determining factor for smartphones, and as gamers drift more toward larger displays, they also look toward those phones that can give them a performance edge.  AnTuTu, a well-recognized site that evaluates smartphone performance benchmarks, rated the 10 best performing flagship smartphones available in September, and while they are all based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or 865+ chipset, the leader is 11.5% faster than number 10, while the 1st and 2nd place models are only 0.37% different in benchmark performance.  While the average user would likely see little difference, gamers dote on these statistics, which can make or break a new model.
