Apple fiscal third-quarter results showed home products and accessories as the third-largest revenue generator, fueled by ongoing strength for the Apple Watch.
- In the third quarter, the company giant $8.78 billion in Wearable’s segment sales, up from $6.45 billion in the prior year's quarter and surpassing the total sales of Mac computers and iPads, which were both riding a pandemic-driven demand tailwind.
- During the earnings call, Chief Executive Tim Cook commented on the expanding wearables reach, saying that "nearly 75% of the customers purchasing Apple Watch during the quarter" were "new to the product."
- Apple ended 2020 with record wearables sales during the holiday season. The new year started off strong with the iPhone maker remaining the worldwide wearables market leader with 30.1 million shipments and a 28.8% market share, according to IDC data. The research firm attributed the growth to strong demand for the lower-cost Apple Watch SE and Series 3, which currently start at $279 and $199, respectively, versus the $399 for last year's Watch Series 6.
