All View Cloud (AVC) Forecasts Growth For PC Monitors
March 08, 2020

Given the slowdown in production and demand caused by COVID-19, market research firm All View Cloud (AVC) has come up with a forecast for monitors that defies logic.  They forecast global shipments of monitor panels to reach 166 million units in 2020, increasing 15.2% Y/Y. AVC reported that global monitor panel shipments declined 5.2% Y/Y to 144 million units in 2019.

In terms of area shipments, the world's flat panel makers shipped a total of 23 million square meters of monitor panels in 2019, down 1.3% on year.
The panel industry also saw prices of mid- to large-size LCD modules (LCM) shrink 13% on year in 2019, while those for small-size LCMs fell 8% on average, AVC data showed.
  • Samsung Display is projected to remain the top vendor in 2020 with its monitor panel shipments reaching 23 million units, up from 16.1 million shipped a year ago.
  • CEC-Panda LCD Technology is forecasted to ramp up its shipments to 15 million units in 2020 compared to 10.5 million shipped a year ago,
  • China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSoT) will increase its shipments to five million from 1.4 million.
  • Chongqing HKC will also step into the sector in 2020 with shipments likely to reach two million units.

AVC said Samsung, AUO, BOE, CEC-Panda, CSoT and HKC had originally planned to ramp up their monitor panel output from their 8.5G and 8.6G lines in 2020, but their efforts might be undermined by shortages of labor and raw materials as well as traffic controls caused by the coronavirus outbreak. Supplies of monitor panels are likely to reduce by several million units in the first quarter due to the outbreak, which is likely to result in price hikes in March after staying relatively stable in February, said the sources
