After The Plethora of Phones Launched in March, New Phone Releases Continue in April
For the first week of April, there are already multiple announcements lined up and we expect no less than eight new devices to be announced.
For consumers, the Galaxy A-series is designed to hit multiple price points and carriers. Samsung's launch comes as LG has decided to stop making smartphones. On the business front, this Samsung A-series lineup is designed to sit between the flagship Galaxy S21 5G portfolio, aimed at enterprise knowledge workers, and frontline folks needing the Galaxy XCover Pro and Galaxy XCover Field Pro.
Beth Kirlic, product marketing manager for Samsung's mobile B2B unit, said the A-series is designed to fit multiple business budgets and be used for retail, factory floors, supply chain, and healthcare. A few key differences between the devices. The Galaxy A52 5G has a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-0 120Hz display. The camera is a 64MP quad setup with 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage. The A52 5G is IPG7 so it's dust and water-resistant. The Galaxy A42 5G has a 6.6-inch HD 60Hz display and a triple camera setup with 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage.
For the first week of April, there are already multiple announcements lined up and we expect no less than eight new devices to be announced.
- New Samsung Galaxy F-series phones – Samsung‘s Flipkart-exclusive Galaxy F-series will be getting two new models on April 5. The two phones are the Galaxy F02s and the Galaxy F12 and both will have Infinity-V displays.
- Nokia Mobile Event – HMD Global had an event scheduled for April 8. The manufacturer is expected to announce new phones for the year, and it has been reported that these devices will adopt a new naming scheme. The Finnish company is expected to announce a couple of mid-range phones which may include all or some of the following phones – the Nokia G10, Nokia G20, Nokia X10, Nokia X20, and Nokia C20. There is also the possibility of new mobile accessories such as these power banks that were listed on the official website last month.
- Lenovo Legion 2 Pro -- With the RedMagic 6 series, ASUS ROG Phone 5 series, and Black Shark 4 series out of the way, Lenovo is ready to grab the spotlight with its next-gen gaming phone – the Legion 2 Pro. When it arrives on April 8, the phone will have a 144Hz refresh rate, a bigger battery, and support for 90W charging.
- Realme expanding its C-series -- Realme’s C-series is a line of budget smartphones and on April 8 it plans to add three new models to the lineup. These phones include the realme C20, realme C21, and realme C25. Realme launched the 8 Pro and 8 smartphones last month. The Realme 8 Pro arrived as the company’s first 108-megapixel camera phone while the 8 was a minor upgrade over its prequel, the Realme 7. Then, we saw Realme GT Neo launch in China and this phone is Realme’s camera-focused flagship. Now, there is a new Realme device that China’s TENAA certification website has listed. This phone features 5G connectivity and has three cameras on the back. But we do not know by what name Realme will launch this phone.
- Realme’s “Dare to Leap” branding is also there on the RMX3142. And you have three cameras inside a rectangular island. We have seen this design before, so it is not a surprise, but we are not quite sure about the sensors Realme has used here. We may be looking at a 64-megapixel snapper -- which is the most common for phones in both mid- and premium-ends. This camera system also has an LED flash inside. Further, the RMX3142 will come preloaded with Android 11 software, and this is a good thing. For quite some time, Realme was shipping the old Android 10 software on most of its phones. There is a 4500mAh battery inside the RMX3142 smartphone. Realme is pretty aggressive when it comes to fast charging solutions, with the Narzo 20 Pro for under Rs 15,000, and it offers 65W fast charging, so it is possible this phone has at least 50W fast charging. The TENAA listing also shows the RMX3142 measures 159.1x73.4x8.1mm.
- Xiaomi announced a bunch of phones - Mi Mix Fold, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11i, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi 11 Lite - two laptops - the Mi Smart Band 6 and a new logo and brand identity. The foldable Mi Mix Fold has an 8.01-inch inner display and a 6.52-inch 90Hz outer display, it's powered by the Snapdragon 888 and it will be available in China from April 16. The Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro both have 6.81-inch 120Hz AMOLED displays, 50MP main cameras and 5,000mAh batteries and are available from April 2. The Mi 11 Ultra adds a large sensor ultrawide and periscope camera and a secondary display on the rear. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G and 4G (which are both here at the office, under reviewing) offer Snapdragon 780G and Snapdragon 732G, respectively, identical 6.55-inch displays of 90Hz refresh rate and main 64MP cameras. The pair will be priced €299 and €369 when they become available. The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 is here with 50% more screen estate thanks to the 1.56-inch AMOLED display. The band's other major innovation is the addition of blood oxygen level tracking - SpO2. The Mi Smart Band 6 will come to China first, before going global as the Mi Band 6.
- Sony will hold an event on April 14 at which it could announce the Xperia 1 III, the Xperia 10 III and possibly the Xperia 5 III. The Xperia 1 III will likely finally add a periscope lens. It will retain its 6.5-inch 4K OLED display and move to the Snapdragon 888 chipset.
- Samsung is launching five new A-series mid-tier smartphones in the US, with an eye toward offering businesses multiple device options. On March 17, Samsung launched two new 5G A-series devices for the international market, and the Galaxy A72 had enough features to arguably compete with the company's flagship lineup. The international launch was all about selfies and catering to young consumers looking to bond with their "squads." The Samsung A-series launch in the US was a bit more understated. For starters, Samsung isn't including the Galaxy A72 in its US launch. Why? The Galaxy S20 FE fills that price point and role in the US. The US is getting the following:
- Galaxy A52 5G - Available on April 9 starting at $499.99
- Galaxy A42 5G - Available April 8 starting at $399.99
- Galaxy A32 5G - Available April 9 starting at $279.99
- Galaxy A12 - Available April 9 starting at $179.99
- Galaxy A02s - Available April 29 starting at $109.99
- The Galaxy A32 5G has a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD screen at 90Hz. The Galaxy A32 has a 48MP quad-camera setup with 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage.
- Samsung's Galaxy A12 and A02s are LTE devices with HD+ LCD displays at 60Hz. The A12 has a 16MP quad-camera setup, 3G of memory, and 32GB of storage. The A02s has a triple 13MP camera setup and 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage.
