2020 Flexible Mobile OLED Panel Capacity and Utilization Increase Y/Y by 19.8% and 23.8% Respectively
According to DSCC’s Quarterly OLED and Mobile LCD Fab Utilization Report, Mobile Flexible Display OLED capacity is forecast to grow from 789m m2 of input capacity in 2019 to 897m m2 of input capacity in 2020 an increase of 11.5%, while rigid OLED capacity hits 555m m2 of input capacity in 2020, up 7.7% and LCD Mobile capacity drops to 958m m2 of input capacity in 2020 down 0.8%. Mobile OLED capacity will end 2020 with 1,434m m2 of input capacity, 49.6% more than LCD capacity. At the end of 2019, OLED had 34.9% more mobile capacity than LCDs.

Flexible OLED utilization is projected to average 55% in 2020, vs. 44% in 2019, even as capacity increased by 19.8% Y/Y.

The data shows a clear shift from rigid to flexible panels. With 43% of rigid capacity idle and dropping, OLED rigid panel makers will have to look for new applications or make significant reductions in price to compete with LTPS LCD prices.
