Taiwanese Supply Chain Supports Foldable Displays
April 22, 2019

Foldable smartphone supply chains now include a number of Taiwanese companies, such as:

  • Taimide that plans to build an optical grade CPI production line in the first half of 2019 with plans to kick off volume production in the latter half of the year, the sources indicated.
  • U-Best Polymer that is developing hard coat films mixed with CPI films for OLED panels based on ITRI to transfer formulas and technology for the production of hard coat films
  • Daxin Materials that is developing high-quality anhydride monomer-based CBDA materials for producing polyimide (PI) substrates and PI cover lenses. Daxin has already delivered samples of its CBDA materials to clients for verification.
  • FineMat Applied Materials, that is expanding capacity to meet increasing demand for open masks. FineMat reportedly have captured a 50% share of the open mask market in China, with clients including Royole and Lenovo (Motorola).
  • BenQ Materials, which makes circular polarizers have developed its first-generation circular polarizers for foldable smartphones. However, the company is now developing its second-generation, with shipments to Chinese OLED panel makers in the second half of 2019.

AUO, which demonstrated foldable OLED panels at SID, 2017 is expected to begin shipping these panels in the second half of 2019. Lenovo (Motorola) is possibly the first OEM to adapt AUO's foldable OLED panels. From: DigiTimes
