Surface Duo – Not Dead Yet

Microsoft’s Surface Duo, with a $1,399 price, was a failure due to hardware shortcomings, despite building off the exceptional Surface line of laptops and tablets and software issues designed to enhance the use of a foldable device that didn’t work well. But the irony was how strongly Microsoft pushed the device., it was still way too much for a first-generation product

The Duo had software problems that ranged from odd to unbelievable for a shipped product, despite Microsoft employing tens of thousands of engineers, though of course, not many work on Android devices. Microsoft did later cut the price to $999 then $650 and continued to patch and improve the software experience. Some sites are offering the product for $410. Microsoft is trying again because now there’s a Surface Duo 2.  The first leaked images of the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 landed last week, courtesy of an unknown YouTuber, as you can see above. Windows Central stepped up to confirm the reports that suggested what you see is what’s expected to come out of Redmond. But editor Daniel Rubino said: “Let us clarify it is a prototype, but also a near-final design. Mostly, the leak shows a key new development, which is a redesigned rear, now housing a camera module that has three lenses and likely an improved camera. One of the worst features of the Surface Duo, was the camera, which struggled in lots of conditions, although things improved over time, just as OnePlus does with its own releases as well. Leaker, WC claimed Microsoft will launch the Duo 2 sometime in September or October.
The concept of the Surface Duo was that a dual-screen with a workspace that efficiently spanned two displays could increase productivity. The approach had been tried before, failed, and compounded by the Samsung Z Fold that kept getting better and better.
