Some Progress Made in QD Electroluminescent Blue

Samsung R&D has announced that it has achieved industry-leading performance in blue QLED, bringing it one step closer to QLED displays. Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), which is Samsung's R&D hub in a report "Efficient and stable blue quantum dot light-emitting diode", said;

- "... blue is known to be the most difficult color to implement out of the three primary QLED colors (red, blue and green)," said SAIT. "But now, SAIT has successfully developed blue QLED technology, achieving industry-leading results such as 20.2% improved luminous efficiency, 88,900 nits of maximum luminance and 16,000 hours of QLED lifetime (measured at half-brightness for 100-nit luminance)."

It means that a blue QLED now has 16,000 hours of lifetime (at 100 nits brightness). This result but nowhere close to the lifetime current spec of 150 hrs. at 1200 nits for T97. As we have reported in this past lifetime would not even reach the 1% level of fluorescent blue performance.
