SDC Expected to Ship 1m Foldable Panels to Chinese OEMs

Samsung Display, which in 2020 sold foldable panels to Motorola is expanding its reach to other Chinese smartphone brands this year.  The company has targeted 1m units for unaffiliated customers with production beginning in Q321.  SDC will maintain the current form factors;  similar to the Galaxy Z-Flip configuration (compact vertical fold) and one comparable to the Galaxy Z Fold configuration (full horizontal fold).

Samsung Display has been sampling foldables to potential outside customers since they began commercial production. Lenovo (Motorola), Oppo and vivo are expected to release foldables this year using SDC displays.  There are some Chinese OLED panel producers that can produce relatively limited quantities of foldable panels currently, but at a bit over 10m units to Samsung Electronics and 1m to outside brands, SDC is by far the only producer of foldable displays that can be considered a mass-producer.
