SDC and LGD Expanding Gen 6 Capacity for iPhone 14 LTPO Demand

Samsung Display is converting its L7-2 LCD fab  into a Gen 6 OLED fab as part of a $2.6b project to add backplane capacity for its A3 line, which had reduced backplane capacity when SDC moved from LTPS to LTPO for the iPhone 13 Pro and Ultra Models.

LG Display also supplied OLED panels for the iPhone 13, which will not use LTPO.  In order to increase its supply of OLEDs for the iPhone in 2022, LGD must expand Gen 6 capacity in Paju.  The expansion of the E6 line has been postponed a number of times over the last few years, possibly for capital or for quality. LGD has sufficient  floor space at E6, to double the present capacity of 30,000 substrates/month. LGD already has some of the deposition equipment on site.  The project is expected to cost 2T won ($1.74B), which would result in added revenue of $5B during the first full year of mass production.
