Q117 TV Panel Shipments Edge Up Y/Y
May 01, 2017

WitsView reported TV panel shipments declined 10.7% were up 0.4% on a Y/Y basis.  TV panel shipments are usually weakest in January and February, after the holiday selling season so the Q/Q fall of 10.4% is not unusual. Other reports indicated an 11.5% Q/Q decline and a 2.9% Y/Y decline.

The following table shows that Samsung Display experienced a significant drop in TV panel shipments down Y/Y by 35.7%, as it ended LCD production in the 7th Gen L-1 fab. China continues to gain share at 30.5% in Q117 and will likely surpass South Korea later this year or early next, as China adds capacity, while Samsung and LG Display reduce their large panel LCD capacity.
