IHS reports the global market share of OLED products in the small and midsize display field increased Y/Y in 2017, narrowing the gap with LCDs. According to its data compiled the overall market for the displays sized 9 inches and smaller came to US$17 billion in 2017, up 29.3 percent from a year earlier. By company, South Korea's Samsung Display Co. made up 44.5 percent of the total.
Samsung Display accounted for 95.1 percent of the OLED display market in the small to midsize range, maintaining its dominant lead. LG Display accounted for 2.7 percent. "Samsung Display posted sales hovering above 10 trillion won (US$9.39 billion) for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2017, and this was attributable to the performance in the small and midsize OLED displays," an industry insider said, claiming the company also has a bright future due to the rising demand for smartphones.
