JOLED Apparently Has Financing to Build Gen 5.5 IJP OLED Fab
July 02, 2018

JOLED is seeking to raise $900 million to support its plan to start mass-producing OLEDs in 2019. Currently, the company is operating with low volume on its Gen 4.5 IJP OLED Fab. JOLED has now announced official plans for its first mass production printed OLED fab in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture with a Gen 5.5 capacity of 20,000 substrates/month. They plan to begin mass production in 2020 and produce 10- to 32-inch OLED displays for automotive displays, high-end monitors and more.
JOLED has not identified the source of the funding but previously reported that Panasonic, Sony, Sumitomo Chemical and Screen Holdings each agreed to invest 5 billion yen(around $47 million), and auto part’s maker Denso also agreed to invest $280 million(for a 15% stake). The other half of the funding remains a mystery.
Earlier reports suggested that Denso might invest up to $450 millionwhile the rest of the companies mentioned above may invest up to $90 million. This announcement may mean that JOLED secured commitments for the whole $900 million, as these companies agreed to invest more than was originally reported.
