China Topped the Automotive Display Market In 2020 with a 30% Share

Omdia reported that China was the largest producer of LCD and also the world’s largest car market. BOE began making automotive liquid crystal display (LCD) panel for the first time in 2012. China is expected to dominate the automotive display market through its large LCD production capacity, Omdia said as LCDs will be the main display technology. According to Omdia, around 35% of automotive displays was a-Si LCD. But this will be replaced with LTPS LCD. LCD that support add on touch will become the mainstream. China is also planning to expand in automotive OLED market, an area currently dominated by LG. Last year, automotive OLED market was led by LG Display, which had a market share of 92.5%. Samsung Display held a 6.9%, while BOE controlled 0.6%. BOE will supply 12.8-inch flexible OLED panels to Chinese automobile companies Nio and IM Motors around the end of the year. Eugene Investment & Securities analyst Noh Kyung-tak said the automotive OLED market was worth US$1.8 billion in 2019 but will grow 16.5% a year on average up to 2023 to be worth US$3.2 billion.
